We went to our first Mashmeet LA and Social Barcamp over the weekend. The events were both awesome and resulted in alot of traffic for the site and a few extra sales earning our designers more royalties.
Social Bar Camp was sponsored by Yoono and lead by Erica O’Grady, one of our new friends :). The barcamp was held 12-4pm. Topics included:
- Multi-player games, 3D digital worlds like Secondlife
- Social Capital and how blogging increases ranking and credibilty
- A business plan competition judged by Pete Cashmore from Mashable
- How Twitter can be used to communicate and build customer loyalty
My favorite topic was Twitter and “Tweeting” with customers. FreshBooks was there and gave a presentation on how it has improved customer interaction and positive feedback. I would go into more detail but Becky Caroll’s blog Customers Rock gives excellent coverage to FreshBooks’ approach.
The second part of the evening was Mashmeet LA. Check out Mashable’s calendar. They are coming to Austin, Boston, Miami, and New York next. The event was held at Rubicon’s HQ in LA and packed the house.

Here is a picture of Erin Trask and I at the event. Erin is our current operations manager, but look for her resident fashion blog coming out in the next couple weeks.
We plan on partnering with Erica O’grady and the Social Barcamp tour and sponsoring the next few events to increase exposure for Collarfree.com and helping our designers.
So if anyone is in New York, Aug 7th, please email me and come out to the Mashmeet NY event.
We also met alot of new and growing startups we will be blogging about in the future including, Black Card Circle, a new social and business networking organization.
Epsilon Concepts provides more info for the curious.
Thanks everyone for a fun Friday ~ Jimmy
****Lastly we wanted to note that the reason our site was not loading images on Sunday was due to Amazon S3 being down. We chose them so we could scale and stability, but the total system went down effecting alot of sites like ours, twitter, and many more on Sunday. More info here

Thanks, Jimmy, for the shout out! Glad to hear about the new fashion blog starting up. Sounds like a great fit.
